An interesting first weekend.
I predicted Leicester for relegation at 16/1. Losing to Hull is obviously relegation form but I do expect them to bounce back. If Mahrez goes before the Aug deadline (Arsenal looking favourite), then I will leave my relegation bet open. If he stays, I’ll close out the position. The odds are already down to 9/1 with most bookmakers.
Chelsea have yet to play but they are still my favourite for the title based on their reasonable odds (6/1). As for the other challengers…
• Arsenal lost their first game but that is nothing new. I expect them to bounce back and have their usual top 4 finish.
• Liverpool looked good but they often do up their game against other big clubs. If Liverpool can get results against the mid-table teams then they should have a good chance of staying in the top 4.
• Man U had a good win, but I just don’t see them as a title challenge. Next few games will be crucial. 3/1 looks short.
• Man City. A stuttering start but I expect them to get stronger as the weeks go on.
My money is that the title will go down to Man City or Chelsea. Based on the odds, Chelsea is definitely the value. Man City at 5/2 are well too short to get involved.
As for top goalscorer, assuming he stays fit, I don’t see anyone getting close to Aguero. 4/1 on Betfair is on the short side but I don’t see anyone else getting close.
A great start to the season. Let’s hope it continues.
